Coloplast Titan Deflation Problems

Underwent a Coloplast Titan implant 4 days back. Though the procedure went well, I am having trouble deflating the implant completely. I called up the doctor, who said this could be a result of the reservoir not settling down. He assured me that things would become normal over the next few days.

My problem is that I am in a semi-erect state all the time, and I am unable to go out in public places nor carry on with my life.

Is this normal? Have others faced the same problem? I am from Beverly Hills.

Four days in, and you want to deflate? The implant not deflating entirely in the initial postop recovery days is quite regular. Not sure why your doctor said it is not natural. AFAIK, most of the doctors will want the implant to be semi-inflated at least for a few days.

My implant did not deflate completely until 10 days, and I was okay with it. My doctor had asked to wait for a week to 15 days to get the implant deflated completely.

IMO, you should wait for a few more days and give your body time to heal.

Four days is tooo early to start worrying about deflation. If you are worried about the semi-erect penis, don’t worry. Wear loose clothes that will hide the semi-erect penis. Avoid crowded places.

One need not have a completely deflated implant. I have had an implant for the past 9 years,. I can squeeze the deflate button and empty the cylinders, but some fluid will flow from the internal chambers into the external chamber of the implant, leaving the implant in a somewhat inflated position.

You will feel it like a nuisance, but that is the new normal, and you will have to get adjusted to it. One way of looking at it is - your dick is working fine.

eagle eye roller eagle eye roller,

You are just a few days into the operation, and you are worried about deflation. Your semi-erection is there because of a reason. There has to be a rather delicate balance of fluids in the tube and also an adequate amount of fluid in the reservoir to avoid scarring.

Once the body has adjusted to the presence of the implant, you will have enough room in the reservoir, and the penile tube and the pump will get deflated.

You are getting worried over nothing, it's just been a few days. I started the inflation/deflation process after 15 days, so your 4 days is too early. Do not worry; down the road, say 2 months, you will have a much better experience.

The deflation I get now is far better than the deflation that I used to get in the initial days of the implant. During the initial days, I would deflate the implant, thinking that every juice is drained out, but there will be some flow back within an hour or two. This lasted for nearly 3 months.

It is only after a few months that I see success with complete deflation. Nowadays, when I squeeze the Titan, it stays at the same level, and there is no flow back into the pump.

Members have said that it is quite normal to have some auto-inflate. Well, even I was of the same opinion, but when things did not fall into place even after 3 months, I decided to seek medical advice.

It turns out that my surgeon had messed up the implant surgery, and I had to undergo revision surgery to set things right.

eagle eye roller eagle eye roller, check your progress regularly, and if you feel that things are either going slow or not happening correctly, I’d suggest seeking medical advice.

I will agree with N naithan.

Deflating is not an easy thing. You might have tried deflating it, maybe 6-7 times now. Six months to a year from now, the count will be in the 100s. eagle eye roller eagle eye roller, deflating a penile pump is a skill that must be acquired.

As you know, the penile cylinders go deep into the groin. If you are facing issues with deflating, squeeze your perineum and dick simultaneously. That could work for you.

But as a poster said, some amount of inflation is necessary to prevent the formation of scar tissue. If scar tissue forms, then not only deflation, you could have problems with inflation also. And you certainly don’t want that.

It's not uncommon during the first month to have a 15-20% constant erection, because of the swelling. Things will settle down... If you need a 2nd opinion - maybe consult Dr Gary Alter, he is in Beverly Hills. He is well regarded and I have been to him. Excellent doc.

Hi eagle eye roller eagle eye roller,

I hope your Coloplast Titan has deflated by now. If not, you can call the company where a Coloplast educator will guide you. You can also contact your doctor if it is problematic, but the doctor should ideally be the same surgeon who did the implant in the first place.

I don't think you should be trying to do the inflate/deflate cycles this early. Doctors say do it when you feel comfortable, but not this early - why not give it a couple of weeks.

Give it time. I suddenly developed deflation issues 2 months after I got the implant. I consulted the doc and turns out the darn pump got turned around and I was actually pressing on the wrong side. I don't know how that happened. It was pointing pointing straight out instead of pointing at my right leg. Eventually it reorientated itself.

I am 73 and in good shape and not diabetic. I had the Titan implanted almost 6-weeks ago. I am still swollen with ugly shaped edema in the penis and some fluid on the pubic bone. The pain and pressure in my penis is constant, as if someone stuck a pencil up my penis extending into perineum. I had my education post-op visit at 4-weeks. I am sure I am operating the inflate pump and deflate buttons correctly. It is difficult to tell how effective the inflation pumping is with my deformed penis. The surgeon said that will go away in time. My main concern right now is that my penis never deflates less than half erection and fills back in almost instantly to an almost full erection. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice? Thank you.

I had an implant 11 weeks ago with visits to the surgeon at 1, 6 and 9 after surgery. For most of this time I have had a 7/8 erection, though the surgeon was able to deflate it at the 1 and 6 week visits. At the 9 week visit he and I both were able to deflate willy, but a day later I have lost the knack or something, for once again I cannot deflate. There is also some auto inflation, but I could manage this IF I could get willy down.

The problem may be me: I just cannot feel the dimple and button at the ends of the release valve, but I am pretty sure that I can find the ends so that should be ok. Age 71.

Any ideas at all would be most welcome: I am getting tired of pissing upwards.

I am the guy who posted before you. I am now 10-weeks post implant. I am having no issues with the mechanics of deflating. I can't really feel the buttons either but can distinguish the flat sides below the bulb vs the edges. I keep a good grip pinching the flat sides while I squeeze for 10-15 seconds. My penis is getting close to being flacid and hanging down, but there still are fluids outside the device seeping back in after deflation. I estimate I still have one-third erection after deflating, but I am able to bend it down enough to urinate into the toilet bowl. Good thing I am a bachelor because my aim is not always on target. Started having intercourse at 8-weeks. It was still a little painful but is improving. Hope this helps. MM

Thanks Mike - it does help. I must be near the release valve because I can get it partially deflated by trying repeatedly through the day.

Could be due to inadequate size of the implanted cylinders perhaps. I hope the erection is still good enough for penetration.

The rigidity issue with penile implants happens sometimes, and some men use vacuum device to enhance the erection while on penile implants. There has been a research study where men who were dissatisfied with the rigidity of penile implants reported increased rigidity and satisfaction using a combination of an external vacuum device and penile prosthesis, and 11 of 12 men in the study reported significant improvement in length and girth.

Thx i would try that cause I can use it for penetration but not a full erection

Any tips for inflating a Coloplast Titan? Had surgery Dec 29. Inflate bulb is like squeezing a ball bearing. Doctor says it’s normal and to give it time. Not sure what’s happening. 🤷‍♂️

It shouldn't be that hard. In the first 2 weeks inflating can be little hard and thats why it's recommended to lie in hot water while doing it. Should have gotten easier.

There is also some research on the hard pump bulb issue.
All patients were implanted using standard techniques through an infrapubic or penoscrotal approach. Twenty-nine patients (5.3%) complained that their IPP would not inflate and that the pump bulb felt "hard." Examination revealed that their IPP was working normally; however, the inflate/deflate valve disc had become stuck in the deflate position. Very firm pressure had to be applied to the pump bulb to move the valve disc into the inflate position. Once this was accomplished, the device inflated and deflated normally. Another 14 patients (2.5%) reported this phenomenon to us but were able to apply enough pressure on the pump bulb to rectify it.

CONCLUSION:
The inflate/deflate valve disc in the Coloplast Titan OTR pump can occasionally become stuck in the deflate position (7.8% of patients in our experience). Patients may be unable to inflate the device and return for evaluation. In all cases we have encountered, firm pressure on the pump bulb caused the valve to shift into the inflate position, and the device worked properly thereafter. Patients and implanting urologists should be aware of this issue and of the way in which it can be rectified.

I’m 5 weeks post op. Having issues fully deflating. My doctor was able to last time I saw him. Penis pointing down and more manageable. Was able to go to gym etc. it’s uncomfortable sitting. Does that get better? I also like to bike. I hope I can do that. I had a 24 cm implant with 1 cm extender yet I’m not as big or thick as before. A bit disappointed in size but happy I have a long term solution. 54 years old.

Hi N Northeastblastup I am 7 or 8 weeks post revision surgery and 6 months from original surgery (the surgeon repositioned the coloplast equipage because I found it impossible to deflate it). I cannot say whether the girth or length are changed from when my willy worked properly - that it worked and was fun was enough and I never looked) so I just don't know what I have lost (?) in that regard ... BUT ...
1. my Goodwife tells me that it is rigid enough but softer at the sides than formerly, and
2. there is no question that the head is softer than formerly.
I conclude from those that both girth and length are reduced, so supporting your observations.
The effect? - dunno - but the sex is good, and all the better for being able now to "do it", and Goodwife is happy.
One observation: my willy erect points out rather than up as he used to. The result that he tends to slide below the vagina and has to be guided in, particularly annoying when the power is on and the thrusts are deep. Have to stop the romp and restart. Any comments?
