Tristin Penile implants should be considered only as a last resort imo, especially at your age. When all other options don't help you have a normal sex life, only then. After implant surgery, you can never really go back. The corpora cavernosa (that spongy tissue), is displaced during surgery and that cannot be replaced, should you decide later on that you want the implant removed.
I agree, and will say age is not a factor, it should be the last resort for all. In my 40's I started having ED issues which went on to become total failure to become erect by the time I was 50, I talked with my doctor about it (veterans administration) and he prescribed
Viagra. Not only did it do nothing for the problem but I had a sever loss of color vision which thankfully went away the next day. So, the doctor prescribed Caverject in it's generic form. It did not work at the dose prescribed (20 mcg) but started to work at 40, and worked fairly well at 60, but worked great at 70-80 mcg, so well that it was the first time in about 10 years I produced copious amounts of pre cum, and an erection that felt like it did when I was 19.
I should say that at the time I thought the dose issue must have been size dependent, I had a larger than average penis (about 23 CM, 9 and 1/4 inches) but this dosage was almost 4 times what the doc has prescribed. The VA provided 4 syringes with 20 mcg each and so 4 at the prescribed dose would provide 4 erections, if it worked, at 70-80 mcg it took the entire month worth of drug to provide just one erection, and who wants to go through life getting one erection per month? Still, not only did the Alprostadil work magnificently upon use, I found that I was still able to get an erection the following day till about afternoon, if not quite the throbbing stiffness of the night before.
We forget I think how the penis used to function as quite young men, how it almost vibrated, the medication returned my erections to that state and I was very happy with it in spite of having to use four needles to inject it.
The VA pharmacy however refuse at one point to refill the prescription any longer, after it went on generic the patent was bought by a well known person and the price increased 10 fold from about $19 per syringe to about $170 (currently available Caverject 20 mcg is $104), meaning that one good erection would cost nearly seven hundred dollars, US! The VA dropped the drug from the formulary.
So, my doctor referred me to a urological surgeon, and in 2011 they implanted a AMS 700.
I was very disappointed in the loss of both girth and especially length, my new size was just 7 inches and the entire penis lost a noticeable amount of thickness. It was only about that time that I decided penises and any cylinder should use cubic volume rather than length and diameter as a unit of overall measure, and I calculated I had lost about 35% of my cubic volume. I had been blessed to be well above average but it was not easy becoming just average. You do not understand how the loss in size is going to hurt you till you have no choice but to live with it. And this was particularly hard when recently told that the same Alprostadil is now available at compounding pharmacies for around $5.
Now, almost a decade later my AMS 700 has failed (fluid leaked out) and the VA has scheduled me for revision, the doctor plans to put in a Coloplast Titan. I should regain some of the girth as the Titan cylinder is 17% larger, but you lose length with every surgery.
You should know that when I have told doctors that I lost two inches in the first surgery they flat out scoffed at the idea. They said they never saw anyone lose more than about 1 inch. That really makes me sort of mad not to be taken seriously or believed when it comes to people you are supposed to be able to trust.
There are a lot of pro's and con's to this ED solution. Overall I am happy I did it, but if I thought there was soon to be any solution that works short of the surgical solution I would have waited. Had I not been sort of "gifted" to begin with I would be very unhappy with the results, like I say to this new surgeon, thankfully I had enough to start with I could afford to lose a little and still have a decent penis. That does not mean I like it, only that I have found a way to accept something I can't change, because one day they will will be able to clone and graft your own cells so devices like these are unnecessary, but at my age I will not live to see that, and remember till then this surgery is not reversible.
